Often, in the workplace, employers terminate or disadvantage employees who speak out about matters of public concern. While the Supreme Court has significantly narrowed the rights of such public employees, those who speak out as citizens and make important revelations about matters of public concern still have constitutional protection.
This practice area has brought us great satisfaction as the public gains tremendously from the courage demonstrated by such whistleblowers and we have had substantial success representing them.
JULY 13, 2016: This decision was released today by the US Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. It reversed and vacates a district court decision and concerns important issues relating to the abuse of power and retaliation against a police officer for expressing his political views.
We can all learn from the court's wisdom. It remains a privilege to represent people willing to stand up to power! Michael Sussman
